This site is dedicated to the new Scout hut Build for the 6th lichfield Scout group, to keep you informed of the progress and news regarding the New Scout Hut Build Project.
I have now added the new images that I promised you all. I took these about one hour ago so they are as fresh as I can get them after editing and all the write-up!!
If you haven't read yesterdays report please do, it helps to explain everything that has been updated and done.
The Headquarters ....note.: not hut !! is progressing very well and now at a fantastic state indeed.
Since the last update I have unfortunately suffered a hard drive failure on my laptop which I used for all the website editing and messages. Contained on this was all the hut build images and website pages.
Of course, being an IT student, I never kept regular updates and backups of data held on the system. Fortunately,I had a fair chunk of the information and images. I did however loose the most recent sets of images and data ready to be uploaded to the site here.
Since then, I have a new hard drive even more annoying as it was still under warranty!! Never the less I have managed to retrieve what I can and get my laptop up and ready to use again. With preparation for annual camp, work, annual camp and the after part (rest!!) I have not had time to let you all know until now, many apologies about this. However it is here now!!
New images will be taken tomorrow showing the most up to date progress of the HQ but until then I will write here on the progress and what has been done since the start of June. It is bullet pointed to make it easier to read and keep the information quantity small.

The Headquarters ....note.: not hut !! is progressing very well and at an incredible state. Since the last message below, the frames for the walls have been completed, the lighting is nearly complete, the ground source heating pipe work is in, plu8mbling, security, intruder alarm, fire alarm and electric meter are all in. Gas has been quoted and now will be filled into the main building, steps to the basement have been laid, the hard standing gravel for the car park is in, bollards for car park and ramp are complete, the entrance woodwork has been started and progressing well. New building sign has been ordered and now awaiting delivery, doors and roller shutter have all been added.
Think that is most of it, I have probably missed something somewhere!! You will see what has been done from the pictures and gain a better understanding and idea on how the headquarters are now progressing.
Due to several reasons this site has not been updated for a few months, never the less it is now back delivering you the most up to date news about the new hut build that we can.
At the top of the page in the navigation there is now 2 pages, one of the pages has the 2008 building developments on and the other has the developments from 2009. I have done this to enable faster browsing and loading of the site.
Anyway, since the last build development update on here, what has been done!!? A lot to say the least, just to summarize; the building is externally getting very near completion, the frames for doors and windows are in, brickwork is nearly complete, gutting in place, fascia boards going up, roof is on, the floor in the main hall is in and external finishing touches are being added in places. As you will be able to see from the images there has been a lot done, inside it looks a lot bigger, cant wait now for it to be complete.
As usual please do look and check regularly, good to know this site is being used after the effort that has gone in to create it, any queries report via the website and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Enjoy!!

It has been a few weeks since the last update due to many reasons both in and out of Scouting; however, I can update! The main hole for the hut is dug, concreted and steels in for the foundations, despite the continued terrible weather, the builders are only approximately 10 days behind schedule. Water still continues to waterlog the concrete base so progression is being held back. Pictures soon!
The main bulk of the interior of the hut is cleared and 'sorted'. items that are unwanted or unusable have been put into the skip for disposing of. Items that we are keeping have been placed into storage for the new Headquarters once built. Images of the Hut clearance have been placed onto the ' Build progress ' page of this site.
It is with great joy that we can announce that the new hut will start to be built on the 18th August 2008! This is within 2 weeks from now! This is a great step in getting the final building completed and at last see something that all members of the group have been waiting for, for a long time, some more than others!
However, this does not mean we have the full amount of money required. We are still approximately £10k short of our target, but we are hoping that we can fulfil this during the 8 month building development. This 10k will help to fit out the interior of the hut, such like the furnishings and equipment.
From now we need all the help we can get. We are having containers delivered onto the site for storage and everything inside the Scout HQ needs to be moved into these. With the amount of equipment we have, this is a job for as many hands as we can get. If you could help, be only for an hour or so, please get in touch either via this site, via phone or speaking to your section leader for information.
If you have any ideas for fundraising or someone you know who can help with fittings for the inside, such as plastering, who is willing to help for cost price, or a contact for equipment, willing to do a good deal, then again, please contact someone from the group.
Today, (5th August) we also received a grant of 50k from the Youth Capital Find (Staffs CC) which comes as a massive boost to us.
Finally for now, during the building development, we will be meeting at the HQ in Beacon Park, located next to the 'canoe pool' This will be our residence for the entire time until the new hut is built. A map of this location and access points will be shown on this site in due course. |
